Firelei Báez & Yoko Ono Curator-led Walkthrough & Cocktail Hour at The MCA

Join EarlyWork at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) for a night of inspiration!

On Tuesday, December 17 from 6-8 pm EarlyWork and friends will dive into the stirring work of artists Firelei Báez and Yoko Ono.

First, with a curatorial walkthrough, we'll explore Firelei Báez, the first mid-career survey in North America of the multilayered and dynamic work of Firelei Báez. In her monumental paintings and installations, Báez creates fictional worlds that explore the legacies of colonial rule across the Americas and the African diaspora, in the Caribbean, and beyond.

After learning about Baez's work from MCA curators, we’ll migrate over to the museum’s atrium for a cocktail hour where we’ll mix and mingle!

Following our cocktail hour, we will head upstairs to view Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind, one of the most comprehensive exhibitions to date of Yoko Ono, the trailblazing artist, celebrated musician, and formidable campaigner for world peace. This remarkable retrospective—on view at the MCA as the only US venue—celebrates key moments of Ono’s career, showcasing art driven by ideas and expressed in poetic, humorous, and profound ways.

After a curatorial introduction to Music of the Mind, we'll be free to explore the interactive exhibition at our own paces! If you’d like another cocktail, feel free to head back down to the atrium before our time at the museum concludes at 9 pm.
