About the event
Join Gertie for a breakfast social and closing walkthrough of Change, I Ching (64 Paintings), Leah Ke Yi Zheng's extraordinary solo exhibition at the Renaissance Society.
On its final day, gather over a casual breakfast to linger a little longer with a body of work that rewards return visits. Zheng's Change, I Ching (64 Paintings) is a complete cycle of 64 paintings drawn from the hexagrams of the I Ching — the ancient Chinese Book of Changes — one of the most enduring meditations on transformation, uncertainty, and the nature of existence ever written.
But these are not illustrations. Each painting arrives at its hexagram sideways: through abstraction, through intuition, through the quiet drama of light moving across silk stretched over hand-built hardwood frames. Zheng builds her visual language the way the I Ching builds meaning, not through fixed answers, but through pattern, accumulation, and continual difference.
Taken together, all 64 paintings form something rare: a complete thought, made visible. Come see it whole before it's gone!
