Take the iconic, scenic lakeshore drive down to Hyde Park to visit the Smart Museum on University of Chicago’s Campus for an evening of food, drinks, art, performance, and conversation. The museum will be hosting a celebration of the exhibition “Calling on the Past,” where highlights include recent acquisitions by Rasheed Araeen, Amir H. Fallah, Ivy Haldeman, Whitfield Lovell, Lauren Quin, and Kishio Suga.

At the reception, you can catch performances by puppetry artist Samuel J. Lewis II and poet Audrey Petty, and tour the exhibition with curator Jennifer Carty. If you’re still hungry afterwards, The Bronzeville Winery is only a 6-minute drive north. The restaurant, founded by Eric Williams, is a cultural incubator featuring a rotating art collection curated by Cierra McKissick, a state-of-the-art 360-degree sound system, live music and DJ residency commissioned by Ron Trent. Not to mention, there’s a wine list with selections from around the world highlighting women and minority-owned labels paired with an ever-changing seasonal menu of comfort food reimagined with house-grown greens and local ingredients.
